Dec 3rd, 2009 by g97
Am Dienstag, dem 8. Dezember 2009, wird um 20.15 Uhr im Übungsraum 1 des Juristischen Seminars, Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage 6-10, 69117 Heidelberg
Herr Prof. Dr. Mark Weiner von der Rutgers Law School in New Jersey einen Vortrag halten über: Clan, Culture, and the Concept of Law: Lessons from the Island of Memory.
Zum Thema des Vortrags: How do modern liberal societies which have overcome cultures of feud and kin-based vengeance remember their anti-liberal legal past? Weiner’s talk will consider how the concept of law has changed within Icelandic culture during three critical moments of the nation’s history, from the middle ages to the present. By using Iceland as a case study for understanding the relation between the rule of law, the concept of law, and the cultural life of legal memory, Weiner also will advance a framework for understanding the challenges facing clan-based societies such as Afghanistan and Somalia.
